Alpine Library Events for April 2011

PRESCHOOLERS (age 2-5):

Local Heroes Storytime: April 6 – 10:30-11 a.m. – Meet Railway operator Roy and hear stories about trains! Learn about our local Descanso, Alpine & Pacific Railway train route and make a craft.

Dia de los Ninos/Dia de los Libros: April 2010:30-11 a.m. Storyteller will share tales in both English and  Spanish. Every child will receive a FREE book! (while supplies last)

Preschool Storytime is held every Wednesday from 10:30-11:00 a.m. – Kids enjoy stories, songs, and a simple craft.

GRADESCHOOLERS (age 5-12):

Every Wednesday – 3-5 p.m. – After School Art – We supply the paint and paper, you bring your creativity.

Apr 9 – 1-3 p.m. – Crafts with the Purple Lady – Decorate a canvas tote bag for Earth Day. All materials provided at no charge.

Apr 30 – Craft Table with lots to choose from – Make it here or take it home for later.

TWEENS/TEENS (AGE 10-18):

Every Thursday – 3-5 p.m. – Enjoy our variety of Wii games after school.

Apr 14 – 3:30-5 p.m. – We will play with paper – Origami, pop-up books, etc. Snacks will be served.

April 20 – 4:00 p.m. – Teen Online Book Club chat – Discuss Graceling by Kristin Cashore. Join the Online Teen Book Club anytime – visit http://sdclteenbooks.ning.com/ to learn more.

ADULTS/SENIORS:

Apr 23 – 10:30-11:30 a.m. – All About Heirloom Tomatoes—From Seed to Salsa! Master Gardner Karan Greenwald will share her tips for growing delicious, healthy tomatoes from seeds. Karan grows between 50 and 75 different heirlooms every year. No charge for this event.

April 16 – Alpine Book Club. We will discuss The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.

Apr 28 – 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – Author Talk: Bumps Along the Way by Linda Loegel, who is “Mrs. Fred,” former co-owner of Fred’s Old Fashioned Burgers. Come and enjoy a slideshow and free ICE CREAM courtesy of Fred’s! Linda will talk about their cross-country trip and the book that came of it. Linda is President of the Alpine Writer’s Guild and will have copies of her book available for sale.
