Controlled Burn Conducted TODAY
July 7, 2011 (McCain Valley)– If you see smoke today, don’t panic. Cal-Fire and the San Diego County Fire Authority will be conducting controlled brush fire training thursday, July 7, from approximately 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the McCain Valley area of East County. Smoke will be visible in portions of our inland regions.

It is good that the firefighters are keeping themselves well-trained!
And I also am glad this was posted, though something doesn’t sit well with me on the burn itself: Chaparral really shouldn’t be put under controlled burns. This website explains the issue:

If chaparral burns more often than at least 30 years, it destroys it and converts the area into just weeds, which burn even faster
You are very welcome Ruth!
Thank you so much for posting the notice of controlled burns – I always have an alarm reaction when I smell smoke and try to figure out if it is anything to worry about or act on – I get online and see if I have an email from you about any current fires. It helps to be forewarned and know what the situation is. Ruth Wallace
