About
Shelter Dogs to Dream Dogs….

~ Welcome to Our Home ~
I live on three acres and have turned my home into a dog and cat rescue/training ground. The dogs I bring home from the shelter, were on “Death Row”. When the dogs first arrive from the shelter, they are not respectful. Instead, they are crazy or scared.
For the first couple of days that they are out of the shelter, I give the dog time to have a mini vacation from their horrible, past experience. I live in a dog heaven with lots of grass, a view of the mountains, overlooking Lake Jennings. There is a pool, horses and space without humans except for my two home-schooled children!
My own “well behaved dogs”, teach the “new dogs” canine respect. This is where their rehab begins. When the dog is finally calm, and at peace, I can start their off-leash training, which begins with manners. When they start to show respect to me as a leader, I start their on-leash training, which teaches obedience. During this time I can size up the good and the bad, the true personality of the dog, and consider their pairing with prospective owners. My training pays particular attention to inappropriate and bad habits, as these must be stopped. With more than 20 years experience as a dog trainer, I know how to make it happen. One local shelter has said that my rescue operation is the only one in the San Diego region that they will give the big dogs to who are scheduled to be put down due to behavioral problems. I specialize in training the needy shelter dogs, to help them become good companion or therapy dogs.
While with me, the dogs are thoroughly socialized with both children and other animals. My home-schooled children play and spend time with them, and we also operate Happy Cat Rescue, so each dog is exposed to the cats and are “cat trained.”
By the time the dog is ready for his/her new home, every inch of that dog has been tested and I will tell you exactly what type of mind your new dog has. Finally, I give a training session to every owner before they drive away with their new dog. I am then available via email for any at-home questions, at any time.
All graduates are ready to go to their forever family when they are:
- Spayed/neutered.
- Have all thier shots including rabies
- Micro chipped
- Good with cats, dogs of all sizes and kids
- Giving at the food bowl, eats out of one bowl with all dogs
- Rides in the car happily
- Sleeps at night
- Trustworthy in social situations.
- A pleasant part of society and your family
- Walks on a leash
- Knows all basic commands

About Happy Cat Rescue…..

Happy Cat Rescue is owned and operated by me, Makena Sacks. I rescue the cats from the shelter that are scared, mean, or cats who need help.
I started Happy Cat Rescue 3 years ago when I was 7 years old, I am now ten.
One weekend Inoticed lots of cats were missing from the shelter. I heard the workers talking about how they had to put them down. My heart felt sad, and I knew that if my mom could save the dogs, then I could save the cats! I have never stopped saving the cats from that day.
These unwanted shelter cats come to my rescue and move in with my cats in their very own 400 square foot cattery. They have a wonderful view of the lake with lots of cat tree’s, fresh water, good food and lots of toys.
When I take home the scared, submissive, mean, or badly behaved cats they live in a big dog cage in the middle of my cat room to make sure they are healthy, use the litter box, and it allows me to watch them and see what I need to work on. It is up to me to determine what type of home each cat needs to find……
indoor, indoor/outdoor, or barn.

~ Private Adoptions ~
“Chewy”

Chewy is an adorable brown and white neutered 8-9 month old Pit Bull. He was found wandering in a field in Alpine while his current foster family was talking a walk with their own dogs and a couple extras. Chewy ran up to everyone, happy as could be to see some friendly dogs and humans and now he is in a safe place and getting lots of love and attention.
Chewy has loved all sizes and genders of dogs he meets. Chewy will likely do best in a home without cats. He adores playing with his friends, shares toys easily will play tug of war with his dog friends all day if he could! Chewy can also calm down nicely and once he has had a nice walk and play time…it’s time for some sleep.
He absolutely loves all humans, including small kids. Cuddling with his humans is one of his favorite pastimes. Chewy has learned to sit, is working on recall and does fantastic on his daily walks both off and on leash. He is always ready for an adventure, hopping into the car with his doggy and human friends. He is also crate trained, housebroken and not a barker. Chewy is very eager to please and highly intelligent. He is learning manners very quickly in his foster home.
Chewy is a puppy, so he will need lots of bones to chew and is still learning. He is working on not chewing things he shouldn’t. Chewy is a gem of a dog and will give all the love the can to his new owners. He deserves to let his happy-go-lucky personality blossom with the lucky family that adopts this fantastic boy.
