FREE Algebra 1 Boot Camp at Alpine Academy STARTS TODAY!  – 10 am 

Tired of sitting around at the end of Summer Break? Then join us for FREE Algebra 1 Boot Camp! Alpine High School Academy is offering a free two week fun-filled math enrichment program to prepare students for the upcoming school year. We invite all students in the community to participate, even if you are not enrolled at Alpine Academy. The program is designed for high school students who will be taking Algebra 1 this Fall. Students will benefit from a “head start” to brush up on math skills in a fun and relaxed environment.

School Supplies Drive for Students in Need

Mountain Health & Community Services, Inc. has been providing backpacks and school supplies for the families in rural East County for the past 6 years.  Last year, with help from you,  we were able to provide school supplies to over 300 children and several elementary school classrooms.  We expect the number of needs to grow even more this year with more families experiencing financial hardship.

 

We are seeking donations of school supplies. Every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:15 to 10:15 at the Alpine Community Center. Join us for a  progressive level Yoga class catering to ALL levels (beginners, intermediate and advanced praticioners). This class is taught by Mary Barkley, who has been teaching this YOGA class for 15 years at the Community Center. The cost is $8 per class for ACC members; $10 per class for non-members.      

  

 

 

 

 

 

Matt’s Sit-N-Fit Class – 11 am to 12 pm

Every Tuesday from 11am to 12pm at the Alpine Community Center. Matt Kraemer, owner of Alpine Physical Therapy & Wellness Center in Alpine, donates one hour per week to teach this FREE class. He helps seniors get a little exercise while sitting in a chair with the aide of rubber exercise bands and music! Alpine American Little League WINTER BALL REGISTRATION – 5pm to 7pm Alpine American Little League Winter Ball season is getting ready to start… this is a great opportunity for the boys to keep their skills up now that the regular season is over.   Practices are minimal and games will begin in early September and finish the third weekend of November (before Thanksgiving).   Games are played on Sundays at various fields throughout the East County. Come out and extend the baseball season!!

The cost is $45 per player and is open to player’s league age 7 to 12 (age on Apr 30, 2011) and you can register by mail or in person.

Alpine Historical Society Potluck Meeting with Guest Speaker, Dr. Sue Gonda – August 21, 2011  

The speaker at the August 21st quarterly meeting of the Alpine Historical Society will be Dr. Sue Gonda who will give a presentation entitled “Not Just Another Pretty Face”, a history of women in California.

 

Dr. Gonda represents the Women’s Museum of California, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1983 as the Women’s History Reclamation Project.  Its founder, Mary Maschal, spent most of her life collecting and preserving many historic artifacts that exemplify and document the life histories and achievements of women throughout the world.  This museum located in downtown San Diego, is one of only five such museums in the United States.

 

The meeting will be held on Sunday, August 21st, at the Alpine Woman’s Club, 2156 Alpine Blvd.  This meeting will begin with a potluck luncheon at 1:00 pm and the program will start at 2:00 pm.

 

Everyone may attend the potluck luncheon or come just for the speaker at 2:00 pm.  Please RSVP to Vikki Coffey at 619-4445-6636.  We look forward to seeing you.

Ralph’s Mobile Food Pantry Visits Alpine at the 1st Baptist Church on August 23 from 10am to 11:00am (Tavern Rd. & Arnold Way)  The Ralph’s Mobile Pantry Program will be coming to Alpine every 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month. No income verification is required. Individuals and families can take home 20-30 pounds of fresh fruit, vegetables, bread and other staple items.

CHIRP “Monarch Mania” Fall Festival – September 18, 2011

CHIRP for Garden Wildlife Presents “Monarch Mania 2011″ – Sunday, Sept. 18 at Viejas Outlet Center! Alpine Education Foundation’s 2nd Annual Fall Festival – October 23, 2011

Please join us on Sunday, October 23, 2011 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm for our  2nd Annual Fall Festival at Summers Past Farm, located at 15602 Olde Highway 80, El Cajon. You’ll learn more about the Foundation and have a fun and memorable family experience at the farm! Admission to the farm is free, but the money raised by our booths will go to our schools. Activities include real draft horse drawn hay rides, a pumpkin patch, 4-H farm animal exhibit, face painting, air jump, balloons, food and treat booths, shopping, and much more.
