Alpine Community Blood Drive – September 10, 2011 It’s time again to make your appointment for this quarter’s Alpine Community Blood Drive sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Alpine on September 10, 2011 from 8am to 1pm. We are getting requests to help local families with blood donations and we could use your help. Every time you donate blood at our Alpine Drive we collect “pints” that we can then donate to a family so that they aren’t charged for the blood that they use in the hospital. Viejas Casino’s 20th Anniversary Celebration Events – September 17, 2011
To recognize Viejas Casino’s 20th Anniversary, there will be a tribal blessing with sage-burning at the casino’s south entrance at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, along with historic bird-singing, which dates back over 10,000 years in Kumeyaay history. There will also be free food and entertainment in the V Lounge and a drawing for a 2012 Corvette at 8 p.m. In addition to the Corvette, one lucky guest will win $20,000 and eight guests will each win $2,000. And the celebration continues at the Viejas bingo pavilion, where $100,000 is guaranteed to be given away on September 17th. Reservations can be made at the casino or online at www.viejas.com.
CHIRP “Monarch Mania” Fall Festival – September 18, 2011
CHIRP for Garden Wildlife Presents “Monarch Mania 2011″ – Sunday, Sept. 18 at Viejas Outlet Center! Event hours are 10 am to 6 pm. Admission to the event will be FREE. In addition to the Monarch butterfly release, “Monarch Mania” will include caterpillar races, a plant sale (of specialty butterfly host and nectar plants), caterpillar sale to grow your own butterflies, and a chrysalis tree where onlookers will watch butterflies emerge before their very eyes! Ongoing educational programs will be held throughout the day, with special guests to include live owls, hawks, hummingbirds, snakes, lizards, spiders and more. ”Monarch Mania” is hosted by CHIRP for Garden Wildlife, Inc., a not-for-profit habitat education corporation.
