This request for the liquor license will be voted on. We need your presence there to show your opposition to the liquor license for the 7/11 Store.
**If you wish to address the group, each speaker will be allowed up to three minutes to speak. Fill out a speaker’s request slip upon arriving.
**Please come to show your support for our community and your opposition to the liquor license. The more people present the better our chances are to defeat the passage of the license.
If you have any question, contact Carol Morrison at this edmor@cox.net or 445-2544

Sad to see what is happening to Alpine, people move out here to get away from the city and end up bringing the city out here. Now Alpine is going to have a McDonalds and a 7-11. I suspect in 10 years or less you will not be able to tell the difference between Alpine and La Mesa, just a farther drive east!
Martin
Angie Thank You for giving us a place where we can alert the community regarding these issues
Angela, unfortunately the licenses have been issued eventhough we are WAY over the limit. I think we are about 13 over the limit. Relying on the ABC to decline this would be foolish.
The ACPG voted to deny the recommendation for a type 20 license that 7-11 was requesting. however, it should be noted that they are in escrow for a type-21 that is in a surrendered status by another business in Alpine (I think it was the Ranch Market), so the fight is not over. Clarification: Type 20 is for beer and wine. Type 21 is for beer, wine and distilled spirits.
I just want to thank everyone who showed up for the meeting last night. We had a great turnout, and it was great to hear from people in town what they wanted. Now if we can just get people to come to more meetings.
If we truly are “over the limit” for liquor licenses, it won’t be approved anyway. There are saturation rules regarding this.
I was through town today and saw a sign that said “Victoria Village”(or something to that effect) Coming Soon. Another one on the other side of the street.
Was there any talk at the meeting of other businesses interested in being there? Sure, we “need this and need that” but if no one is willing to step up and actually open a business like this or that, it doesn’t amount to anything. This is how towns are created. Someone sees a need and fills it. They didn’t see a need and just complain that no one is filling it.
THANK YOU CHRIS FOR SHARING THIS INFO! I will definitely pass along ANY further info i get about this! The more the community is informed, the more they will have a chance to have their voice heard!
Unanimous NO decision by the ACPG however 711 plans on obtaining a FULL liquor license now. It isn’t a done deal by any means. I have been informed that the chairman of the ACPG gets some sort of notification when liquor licenses are applied for even if they do not require the board to weigh in. Lets all hope our chairman Greg Fox will let the community know when they file for this new one so we can attempt to stop it once again. Last night was proof that if our town gets together we can make things happen, or at least put up a good fight!! <3
Thank You All
If you go to the meeting tonight PLEASE report back about how it went! I cannot got, I have a family event to attend
Alpine HAS changed. It has been changed for us, whether we wanted it or not. Chains are a way to make money, but destroy the environment for the individuals, for creative fire of a unique business. Are we just automatons? We are not. We will do what we can, with what we have. Break the chain habit. Stand up for our UNIQUE character, with our UNIQUE inspirations. 7-11 owners, mold to Alpine. We choose NOT to mold to you.
Thank you.
I hope everyone who took a few moments to read and post on these comments sets aside a little time tonight for the meeting and bring these issues to our current board. Unfortunately, these posts and comments are NOT included in the minutes from the meetings are most likely are NOT considered by Ms. Jacobs as this is an informal forum. Please be there tonight and speak your mind. This is all of our opportunity to contribute to the decisions that affect the future of Alpine, Alpine’s current residents, businesses, and future residents and businesses. I look forward to seeing a substantial representation of our township.
One more thing, aside from the proposed 7-11 lot, the Garmo family owns:
The Alpine Inn/Alpine Inn liquor property and the empty lot next to it,
The SHELL station,
AND the new plaza where Dollar Tree is located…and he is also a lawyer.
Sure he needs to make smart financial decisions in order to feed his family but maybe he shouldn’t have designed this new retail plaza to include a huge anchor store retail space that can only be afforded by a big corporation!
Do you see where this is going? What’s next? Is Alpine Inn going to be our towns next pile of rubble to make way for another plaza? There is an application for a transfer of liquor license on the front window of the restaurant in the name of Brian Garmo at this very moment. Maybe we should ask Richard Saldano what the plan for that property is before we wake up one morning to a wrecking ball.
Robert, you are 100% correct…. there are others on the board who make decisions based on their personal financial gain as well.
George Barnett received $200k+from SDGE while serving as the chairman of the Sunrise Powerlink subcommittee. While he is busy remodeling his backyard, the rest of us are left with failed businesses, ruined views etc…The list goes on…
Richard Saldano works for the contractor building the McDonalds by Albertsons as well as this new 7-11. All the while he has been the chairman of the subcommittees in charge of these types of things for our community. Meanwhile we are stuck with a maze of awkward striping on Alpine blvd, and a drainage system that got “forgotten” and needs to be installed. (adding aprox 1yr to the construction on the blvd)
WHY? because Richard was in charge of all that too but was too busy with McDonalds and the Garmo properties (7-11).
These are the people “advising” Supervisor Jacob on what ALPINE as a COMMUNITY wants!
It is obvious Alpine DOES NOT want a 7-11, but will the planning group take the community’s voice into consideration this time?
Membership on the ACPG has been too good to these people….
It is important that you attend this meeting and tell these people what YOU want! If not our town will continue to get “SNOOKERED!!”
Did anybody else go to the other meeting at the Alpine Woman’s Club? I’m sure the property owner is doing what he thinks is best for his family, and that is to make money to support them. But this does not seem what is in the best interest for our town. It seemed like in the other meeting all he could say was that if people could just see the photos of the proposed building that we would be happy. But a wagon wheel or a windmill in front of a “New” old frontier style building will not make people happy. I think it’s a horrible idea!! Also the fact that the President of the Alpine Historical Society was only given 3 days notice of the building being torn down seems shameful and underhanded! It may be too late, the 7-11 will probably be constructed, but they do NOT need to operate with a Liquor License. The Gentleman who owns the property will still make a gain financially if the 7-11 does not sell alcohol, but 7-11 may not still want to rent or buy the space from the property owner if they are not legally allowed to sell alcohol. Also there is an issue with the fact that the Lawyer representing 7-11 went and purchased the liquor license from the old Ranch Market that was in the spot where the new Dollar Store is located. The big concern at the meeting held at the Woman’s club was the fact that the area where the 7-11 building site already has too many Licenses, and then that’s when the lawyer decided to mention the fact that nobody had to worry, because there would be no “new” license, he already had one that he purchased in the name of 7-11. Seems very underhanded. But then again he is looking out for he client….7-11. Also isn’t it a fact that a person who currently sits on the Alpine Planning Group, who has something to do with a construction company will be in a position to make a profit by constructing the new building. Also was it his company that already made a profit by destroying the old building? Seems like a lot is happening and the citizens of Alpine are being “Snookered!” I apologize for the length of this posting, but I’m unsure of the amount of people that knew of some of the things that took place at the meeting. Everybody has the right and frankly the need to make money, I don’t think this is in dispute, but it seems like this this while issue is trying to be completed with the fewest people knowing about it, just so it can be done. Myself, my wife (who was raised in Alpine,) and our Son, will be at the meeting, as well as my Father in Law who has lived here in Alpine since 1970 and his son will also be in attendance. I hope everybody who gets the chance to go to the meeting will.
Its taking away the old Alpine charm, by letting all these corporations come in. ;o(
Alpine does NOT need this! If you do not want 7-11 in the middle if our “rural” town sign the petition and/or come to the community center this Thursday at 6pm! The planning group needs to see that Alpine residents do not want ANOTHER 24 hr convenience store in our town. Especially not this location!
Alpine is shot to hell….it will never be the same…full of trashy shops and strip malls…..too late to save it.
Is there anything residents can do to keep 7-11 off that lot? It is the center of town and would not help our town maintain it’s quaint small town look or feel! We been wondering what was going up there and it’s depressing to hear it is a 7-11. I urge Alpine residents to speak up in opposition! Thank you.
Yea I know that intersection well. I used to live in that apartment above the store when I was younger.. Not the best location for a 7-11… Alpine is def. expanding… :/
Michelle – yes, they want to build it where the Old Adobe Building was, at the Corner of Victoria and Alpine Blvd.
Empty lot is at Tavern Exit bit in the center of town.
The location is bad because our little country like town with a 7-11 right across from a Historical Building is just not appropriate. I’m sure the 7-11 will be approved as all the other things have been (Albertsons, McDonalds) however put it near a freeway exit where the gas station
Too bad we can’t get a high school up here as fast as a 7-11 or McDonald’s. That should be more of a priority then something like this. I know they are not the same thing, just giving my opinion.
it needs to be here alot of you people who moved in here need to go beck to the city with your problems
so they are building a 7-11 in that lot?
