Rose Signore, owner of the Postal Annex of Alpine, is Alpine’s 2017 Honorary Mayor!
Signore and Honorary Mayor candidates Ronda McLauchlan, Clay Mauldin and Frank Sturniolo raised a record-breaking total of about $15,000 for their local charities during the annual Honorary Mayor’s Race.
Presented by the Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce to help community causes and projects, individual amounts are not disclosed. Chamber President/CEO Mary Rynearson said that the difference between first and second place “was very close, about $150.”
“I was pleasantly surprised,” Signore said after receiving big and small keys to the community on March 10 at the Alpine Honey Festival’s VIP Event. “I know that it was a real close race and that all the causes were great causes.”
Every dollar donated to an Alpine Honorary Mayor’s campaign counts as a vote for that candidate. The candidate who earns the most “votes” wins the volunteer position.
Chamber Director Signore dedicated her campaign donations to the Kylie Rowand Foundation, an Alpine organization that helps child cancer patients and their families.
Votes contributed to McLauchlan’s go to the Alpine Education Foundation’s program to provide technology for local school students. The Alpine Youth Center benefits from the money earned by Mauldin, owner of Clayco Electric & Solar.
Chamber Director Sturniolo of REACH Air Medical Services raised funds for the East County Transitional Living Center to help people change their lives. .
Rynearson thanked 2016 Co-Honorary Mayors Joseph Perricone, Chamber Chairman and owner of The Canvas Makers, and Chamber Director Bob Ring, Alpine Barons Market manager, for their service as Chamber goodwill ambassadors.
