‘I Love a Clean Alpine’ offers community cleanup, free recycling
Celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 22, at “I Love A Clean Alpine!” Sponsored and presented annually by the Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce, the Earth Day event begins with Alpine VFW Bert Fuller Post 9578 providing the traditional flag raising ceremony at 9 a.m. It will be at the triangle behind The Tag Stop, 2157 Alpine Blvd.
The Alpine Sheriff’s Station will give safety tips to cleanup volunteers. A continental breakfast will be provided by the Harbison Canyon Lions Club, an event sponsor. The Chamber collaborates with various sponsors for “I Love a Clean Alpine.” Free recycling for electronic waste, hard drive destruction and document shredding will be available until noon at the Alpine Regional Center, 1620 Alpine Blvd. —- another sponsor.
“We’re so happy to support such a great cause in the community,” said Kirsten Coombe, property manager for the Alpine Regional Center. “As a business, we know the importance of being environmentally friendly.” In partnership with I Love a Clean San Diego’s “Creek to Bay” cleanup that same day, sponsor Back Country Land Trust will be in charge of clearing debris, dumped items and other trash from Alpine Creek, near the Alpine Boulevard/Tavern Road intersection.
Volunteers, including Scouts and youth groups, are needed to help with the community cleanup. . BCLT offers certified volunteer hours for student/community service projects. After the cleanup, the Kiwanis Club of Alpine —- another sponsor —- will feed hungry volunteers a free lunch. Kiwanis President Pene Manale said the local club is an event sponsor for several reasons. “Kiwanis International has asked us to do a Kiwanis one-day event every year,” Manale said. “We wanted to keep it in our community, so we’re supporting ‘I Love a Clean Alpine’ here. We’ve helped with this every year.”
Kamps Propane, The Children’s Nature Retreat, Village Carpets/Flooring America, Lantern Crest Senior Living, Pearson Brothers Winery and Waste Management also sponsored this year’s Alpine Earth Day event.
