Alpine Library Calendar of Free Events – November 2018

Greetings, everyone! It’s hard to believe it’s almost November, but we’re ready for some real fall weather and maybe some pie.

Library events LogoThis month we have a few changes to our after-school programs—Nov. 5-9 the schools will be having early release, so we’re moving our 3:30 programs to 1 pm for that week. The week of Thanksgiving, Nov 19-23, there will be no afterschool programs since the Alpine School District is on vacation.

Please note that the library will be closed on Monday Nov 12 in observance of Veterans’ Day, and on Thursday and Friday, Nov 22 and 23, for Thanksgiving.

Mail in Ballot Drop Off: We are serving as a mail ballot drop-off location during business hours only, from Monday Oct 29 through Tuesday November 6.  There will be a table in the lobby where you can drop them off. Please don’t put your ballots in the book drop—it doesn’t know what to do with them!

Here are some of our special events this month:

Death Café  – Thursday, November 1 at 11 am
At a Death Café people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. Our objective is: to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives.  Death Café is a group-directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session.  Join us for conversation and cake! Learn more at www.deathcafe.com

A Musical Celebration of America’s Veterans – Saturday, November 10 at 3:30 pm
This one-hour salute to our veterans will include authentic historical music from our nation’s history. Musical selections will include many favorites (e.g. Battle Hymn of the Republic) and other gems that may be new to you (e.g. The Constitution and the Guerriére and many more). This musical tribute to service will also include wonderful American songs that celebrate our nation’s ideals, along with the Armed Services Medley.

Acoustic in Alpine Concert: Philly and the Cheesesteaks – Thursday, November 15 at 6 pm
A group of longtime San Diego bluegrass musicians have formed a new band consisting of Phil Levy on banjo, Dale Desmuke on guitar, Don Hickox on fiddle, Jim Blakemore on mandolin and Given Harrison on bass. The band plays mostly traditional Bluegrass, with some swing and country mixed in.
