Owner of Alpine Taco Shop, Claudia Sanchez, Named 2020 East County “Woman of the Year”

The Office of California State Assemblyman Randy Voepel announced that Claudia Sanchez of Alpine has been chosen as the 71st Assembly District’s Woman of the Year for 2020. She will be recognized along with other outstanding women selected from throughout the state in Sacramento on March 23rd, 2020.

Claudia Sanchez is currently the owner of Alpine Taco Shop in Alpine. While Alpine Taco Shop has been around for many years, locals say that when Claudia took over she brought the quality of the shop to a whole new level. Claudia is very active in her community. She is an Alpine Kiwanis Member, Alpine Chamber of Commerce Member, Alpine Community Center Member and supports the Alpine Woman’s Club.

Claudia is also involved in the Alpine Union School District (AUSD), Alpine Education Foundation (AEF), the Shadow Hills Elementary School and Creekside Early Learning Center PTA, and the Art Docent program. In addition to these commitments, Claudia supports the Alpine Region American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) as well.

Claudia describes her mission “as an Alpine community member and business owner” as striving “to be an active participant in nurturing and helping our community thrive. I like to be involved in things that help the children, my neighbors (especially during hard times)…just doing the right thing.“


Assemblyman Voepel stated, “It is my pleasure to recognize one of my outstanding constituents, Claudia Sanchez. She has the right spirit and energy about the community that she lives and works in and wants to help to make the 71st District an even better place.”

Assemblyman Randy Voepel represents the 71st Assembly District, which includes the communities of eastern San Diego County, including Alpine, Borrego Springs, Casa de Oro – Mount Helix, El Cajon, Lakeside, Jamul, Ramona, Rancho San Diego, Santee and Spring Valley; and southern Riverside County, including Anza, Aguanga, Idyllwild-Pine Cove, Lake Riverside and Mountain Center.
