End the Year Giving! Donate to Lions, Tigers & Bears Wild Animal Sanctuary!

Breakfast With Bakari, Lions Tigers and Bears, Alpine Ca., 91901As we approach the final days of 2016, and look ahead to what’s in store for this next year and beyond, together we continue to move closer to the victory of ending the exotic animal trade. With eight new rescued exotic cats this year, we believe we will win the fight for all animals and give them what they all deserve – a life filled of freedom and love. There are countless animals remaining in deplorable and abusive conditions who desperately NEED OUR HELP. With supporters like you, we are able to dedicate our lives saving animals who deserve a second chance at a better life. Will you please  DONATE TODAY so that together we can continue to save these animals and provide the most enriching, compassionate care to the lucky rescues who call our sanctuary home?

Lions Tigers & Bears in Alpine, California

With more mouths to feed, more habitats to maintain and more medical care to provide – our daily costs for care also increase. Along with the daily care for our 65+ rescued animals, other sanctuary costs include utilities, insurance, veterinary care, vaccinations, flea-control medications, animal enrichment and the list goes on!

Please help us start 2017 strong. Your year-end gift will help us continue to rescue animals in desperate need, provide lifetime homes with proper care, and educate and inspire the community to speak up against the exotic animal trade.  Your generous donation is tax deductible – and no donation is too small.

Lions Tigers and Bears LogoWe never forget for a single moment that it is you – our dedicated supporters – who make it possible for us to do the important work we do. Your support is the driving force behind every life saved. On behalf of our staff, volunteers and rescued animals we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Wishing you and your loved ones a happy, healthy holiday season and a Happy New Year!

Go Inside The Mouth of a Tiger! September New from Lions, Tigers & Bears

LTB Lions Tigers & Bears News Release

Inside The Mouth Of A Tiger!

Alpine, Calif. (Sept. 13, 2016) – The Peter Emily International Veterinary Dental Foundation (PEIVDF) visited Lions Tigers & Bears (LTB) – an accredited big cat, bear and exotic animal rescue sanctuary in San Diego County, Calif. – on Saturday to provide essential dental care to several of their exotic rescues.

Lions Tigers & Bears is home to almost 60 exotic animals, including cougars, bobcats, leopards, lions, tigers, bears, and a variety of hoofstock.  Dental care is given on a priority basis.  On Saturday, September 10th, seven of LTB’s residents received dental examinations and treatment.  The patient roster included two tigers, three cougars, one bobcat, and one bear.  The all-day event consisted of sedating the animals and performing a range of procedures including comprehensive physicals, dental exams, x-rays, root canals, tooth extractions, and other oral surgeries as diagnosed.

PEIVDF sent a team of 12 veterinary dentists and dental technicians to complete the procedures.  In addition, two local veterinarians and an x-ray technician who provided routine care to the animals at LTB were also in attendance; Dr. Lee Young of the San Marcos Discovery Valley Animal Hospital, administered the anesthesia, along with Dr. Christi Garfinkel, who handled physical exams, and Bob Thomas, for digital x-rays.

Dental care is very important for animals in captivity.  It improves comfort and quality of life, and increases longevity.  Without regular dental care to identify and treat problems, more serious health issues can result, and in severe cases even threaten an animal’s life.

The Peter Emily International Veterinary Dental Foundation (PEIVDF) was founded in 2005 to provide life improving advanced veterinary dental care and treatment to exotic animals located in U.S. (and in the future, overseas) captive animal facilities and animal sanctuaries, which are underfunded and/or understaffed from a veterinary perspective.  PEIVDF is staffed by a network of volunteers in the field of veterinary dentistry from across the United States. Come Help Celebrate Three Lions 9th Birthday at Lions, Tigers & Bears – March 16, 2016

3 Alpine Lions Celebrate Their 9th Birthday!

Lion’s Tigers & Bears invites guests to become a ‘Member for a Day’ to celebrate the 9th birthday of the sanctuary’s lion pride – “Bakari”, “Jillian” and “Suri”, on Wednesday, March 16th, 2016 at 10:30 am. The trio, who are litter mates, were rescued from a pseudo-sanctuary in Louisiana at just 5 weeks of age back in March of 2007. Because all of the animals at LTB are rescues, exact date of birth is unknown, so LTB volunteers and staff celebrate birthdays on the day the animal first arrived at the sanctuary and for this feline family it is March 16th. When Bakari, Jillian and Suri arrived they were only 10, 11 and 12 pounds and today they are 585, 499 and 490 pounds (respectively)! They can each eat up to 15 pounds of raw meat a day – that’s nearly 11,000 pounds of raw meat a year! Bobbi Brink, Founder/Director states “These lions were born into a rough situation, but luckily they got help early on in life. We have watched them grow up over the years, but to this day it is still captivating to see them live their lives and be lions in as natural as a setting as we can possibly provide to them here.”

Come watch Bakari, Jillian and Suri open their birthday presents and enjoy birthday treats in their habitat! Persons interested in visiting the sanctuary to wish the lions a Happy Birthday, can call (619) 659-8078 option 2 to schedule an appointment for March 16th at 10:30 am. The cost is $33/Adult and $16/Child, no cost for members of the sanctuary. It costs a minimum of $10,000 per year to provide basic care to just one big cat or bear at LTB. The sanctuary, which is home to over 50 animals, 19 species, is asking for the public’s support to help cover the costs of animal care.
