The Alpine Community Church Accepting Monetary Donations & Clothing to Help Migrant Families in Mexico

January 2019

Please Help Migrant Families in Mexico

More than 40 migrant men, women and children are temporarily sheltered at the Albergue Camino de Salvacion church in Tijuana, Mexico. The church is providing them a safe refuge as well as food, water, and electricity, but the migrants need new socks and underwear and the church needs donations to pay for food and utilities.

Please make a donation to help these families. The Alpine Community Church is accepting monetary donations of and new socks and underwear for men, women and children of all sizes. These donations will be delivered to the Community Congregational Church, UCC, in Chula Vista where Tijuana pastor Jose Antonio Altamirano will pick up the donated items.

There is no arrangement for on-line giving, but you can bring money, socks and underwear to the Alpine Community Church Office, located at 2225 W. Victoria Drive, in Alpine, on Monday thru Friday from 9:00 am to noon, or you can make an appointment by calling the church office 619-445-2110, or call Tom at 619-885-8063.

Checks should be made payable to “Community Congregational Church” with “Migrant Mission” on the memo line.

Cash may be donated in a sealed envelope with the words “Migrant Mission” on the face.  This program will continue until the end of May. Please help if you can.

Donations Needed for the “Emergency Food Pantry” at the Alpine Community Center

The Alpine Community Center has been an “Emergency Food Pantry” for the Alpine community for the past 6 years. Recently we noticed a marked increase in requests for assistance and we depend solely on donations to stock this Pantry. Until now the major donor to this cause has been Alpine’s Christ the King Episcopal Church. We now require additional donations to keep up with the need.

The type of foods we are able to store and distribute are nonperishable items such as canned tuna, chicken, vegetables, chili, peanut butter, crackers, beans, rice, pasta, etc. We also need pet food and personal hygiene products. Please check expiration dates before donating items.

Donations can be delivered to the Alpine Community Center on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm and on Fridays between the hours of 9 am and 1 pm. We also accept monetary donations which will be used to purchase food items.

Thank you,

Cindi Robertson

“Live Your Dream” $1500 Cash Award for LOCAL WOMEN WAGE EARNERS – Apply TODAY!

The SIA Live Your Dream $1500 Cash Award application deadline is less than one month away. We would love to give a few local women a chance for a new beginning!

live your dream

The Live Your Dream Award is Soroptimist International of Alpine’s major program. The award provides women who serve as the primary wage earners for their families with the financial resources to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education or additional skills and training. The award can be used for tuition, books, childcare, carfare or any other education-related expense.

live your dream photoWhile the $1500 cash award is incredibly helpful, Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award recipients say that confidence and support they receive is equally meaningful.

As a global organization that works to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment, Soroptimist believes in helping women to live their dreams by providing them with the resources they need to change their lives.

We also believe that when you help a woman, you also help her family, the community, and the world. Despite the enormous progress that women have made, they still suffer disproportionately from poverty, illiteracy, violence and discrimination. As women, we feel uniquely qualified to reach out to women the world over.

Maybe you know a woman who might be deserving of a Live Your Dream Award. Or maybe you work for an agency or a college whose constituents would be interested in this program.

I urge you to contact us or to send these women our way. Contact Linda Evans , Alpine Soroptimist Live Your Dream Chair,,  for an applications or more information go to sialpine.orgApplications are due by November 15th, 2018.

Sharlee’s Hair Barn in Descanso Donating 50% of July Earnings to WEST FIRE ALPINE Victims

My heart is breaking for the families that lost their homes to the West Fire. I grew up in Alpine, my paternal grandparents had McCall’s Ranch (now the Mormon church) & my maternal grandparents raised turkeys @ the end of Alpine Heights. Plus, my grandfather, Alex Adams did a lot of grading with his tractor all around Alpine and was a huge part of Kiwanis. Oh I could go on about my family and what Alpine means to me but I will just move on to the reason for this post. Because I have such a special place in my heart for my hometown I’d like to donate 50% of my earnings for the month of July to the fire victims.

My goal is $5,000 but I can’t do that on my own. So I’m asking for your help! I will have a donation jar in my shop for anyone that would like to help PLEASE stop in and give what you can or make an appointment with me and 50% of that will go to it. Either way let’s pull together and help these fine people of Alpine!!! – Sharlee Rushing, owner of Sharlee’s Hair Barn 619-445-2921 or 619-972-3317. We are located at 25077 Viejas Blvd. Descanco Ca. 91916
