Alpine Library Calendar of Free Events – March 2019

Library events LogoHappy March, everyone! We hope you are staying warm and dry, and enjoying the beautiful green hills and wildflowers after all the rain.

This month at the library, we have exciting news: you can access the New York Times online for free through the library’s website! From our database page, choose the “Magazines, Newspapers and More” section at the bottom of the page.  Click the link for “access from outside the library” and you will be directed to a page titled “Enjoy a special offer from the New York Times” with a code and a “redeem” button.  After clicking on “redeem”, you will be taken to the log in/create account page. If you don’t have an account you will need to create one.  This gives you a one-day access pass to the NYT, and you can renew it each day by visiting the link on the library’s website. Many thanks to the State Library of California for providing this service! You can read more about it here.

Speaking of the State Library, last week we were surprised to get a visit from the State Librarian himself, Greg Lucas! He was in the area for another meeting and asked for a recommendation of a local library he should visit…and they suggested Alpine.  He was very complimentary about our new building and the quality of our staff, even though we didn’t have any warning to make special preparations!

We are also pleased to announce that the ALFA Bookstore will now be open on Mondays from 10 AM to 4:30 PM! Many thanks to the volunteers who run the bookstore for making this possible. The bookstore provides funding for many of our programs as well as supporting the library’s collection of books and media.

Jazz at the Library: The Django Shredders* – Thursday, March 28 at 6 pm
