Meet the Author: Vincentia Schroeter – Saturday, June 8 at 12 pm
Her book Communication Breakthrough: How Using Brain Science and Listening to Body Cues Can Transform Your Relationships, is a practical guide offering innovative tools for improving communication. It provides easy-to-understand exercises on how to listen to the signals your body sends you and communicate with assertive clarity. Techniques for enhancing relationships at home, work and your social life are included. Tools to change your mood allow quick shifts for feeling calmer and more centered. When we are calm, we tend to be the most effective at both listening and expressing ourselves clearly.

Our Summer Concerts in the Park series returns beginning June 28 with the US Navy Band. We will have six concerts, every other Friday through the summer! See the attached flyer for details.

Rural Arts Project Classes
Thanks to a special grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, we are offering a series of free art classes for all ages! All materials will be supplied, and no experience is necessary.

For Kids:
Sculpting: Wednesday, June 19 at 3 p.m.
Printmaking: Wednesday, July 17 at 3 p.m.

For Adults:
Sculpting: Saturday, June 15 at 2 p.m.
Printmaking: Saturday, July 20 at 2 p.m.

 

Photography for Everyone! – Friday, June 21 at 10am
Join us for a photography workshop for novices & hobbyists. Learn and practice techniques adapted to your equipment and needs. Bring your smartphone or camera and acquire new knowledge through a learn and play approach. For ages 15 and up.

Summer Learning Kickoff Event: John Abrams’s Animal Magic – Saturday June 29 at 10:30am
A magician and his exotic animals will mystify you at this performance! Sign up for the Summer Learning Challenge while you’re here, or sign up online at www.sdcl.org. Stay for popsicles in the park after the performance!

Summer Concerts in the Park: The US Navy 32nd Street Brass Band* – Friday, June 28 at 6:30pm
The whole family is invited to bring a blanket or chair and enjoy a taste of New Orleans with the Navy Band of the Southwest’s 32nd Street Brass Band, at the Alpine Community Center Park behind the library. Food will be available for purchase from local vendors.

Trail Shoe Demo Day with KEEN Footwear in Wright’s Field on National Trails Day – June 1, 2019

Trail Shoe Demo Day with KEEN Footwear  on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 9am-12pm in Wright’s Field in Alpine (1951 Tavern Road, Alpine, California 91901) *Parking is available at Joan MacQueen Middle School – 2001 Tavern Rd. This year for National Trails Day we’ve invited our partners at KEEN Footwear to join us at Wright’s Field for a trail shoe demo day! Stop by the trailhead to Wright’s Field behind Joan MacQueen Middle School between 9am-12pm and try out any of KEEN’s footwear on our local trails. This will be a great opportunity to try some different footwear options from KEEN and get more insight about their products straight from their reps. If you’re looking for a hiking shoe upgrade, or just more stability and comfort while out hiking, you don’t want to miss this event or your chance to try out a variety of footwear options right here at Wright’ Field. $10 suggested donation to BCLT – all proceeds go directly into trail maintenance and improvements at Wright’s Field.

Pancake Breakfast & Horseshoe Tournament Fundraiser at Alpine American Legion – June 8, 2019

The Son’s of the American Legion has started a scholarship program and we are having a fundraiser June 8, 2019 at the American Legion in Alpine (3328 Alpine Blvd) . It is an ALL DAY event, starting with a pancake breakfast 8am-11am, followed by a horseshoe tournament 10am – 5pm and a live band (“Somebody’s X) outside that starts at noon. We will also have raffles all day. Dinner that day is smoked tri-tip. Adults $8 and kids 12 and under only $5. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Annual High School Academic Scholarship Fund. BITS Wild West Night Fundraiser to Support Animal & Equine Therapy – June 1, 2019

Wild West Night is an old fashioned, family good time FUNdraiser to support Equine & Animal Therapy programs in San Diego County.

Back In The Saddle’s 2nd annual Wild West Night Fundraiser will take place on Saturday June 1, 2019 from 5pm to 10pm at the Descanso Town Hall. The event promises to be a fun filled evening featuring delicious BBQ, adult beverages, great music, family fun activities, silent auction & raffle items. Proceeds will go towards providing Equine & Animal Therapy programs for children, Veterans & individuals with special needs in San Diego County. Changing Lives…One Ride at a Time! Love for Luke Fundraiser! Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 2pm to 7pm at Boulder Oaks Elementary School (2320 Tavern Rd. Alpine Ca 91901) Please join us for an amazing afternoon! We will have a car show, Vendors, rock painting, #LOVEFORLUKE swag, face-painting, airbrush tattoos, fabulous live music, food, shaved ice, horse draw cart rides, free book exchange, an AMAZING silent auction including trips to Hawaii, date nights, spa days, and so many you just have to come see!!!!

About Luke: Luke Hayworth is an 8-year-old little boy whose energy, sweetness, and silliness bring joy and light to everyone he meets. On December 26th, his family’s world was shattered when he was suddenly diagnosed with Leukemia.

Luke and his family have a long, exhausting road ahead of them. So many have asked me how they can help and I am hoping this page will be a positive and supportive way to provide that help when it is needed and love always.
