Pancake Breakfast & Horseshoe Tournament Fundraiser at Alpine American Legion – June 8, 2019

The Son’s of the American Legion has started a scholarship program and we are having a fundraiser June 8, 2019 at the American Legion in Alpine (3328 Alpine Blvd) . It is an ALL DAY event, starting with a pancake breakfast 8am-11am, followed by a horseshoe tournament 10am – 5pm and a live band (“Somebody’s X) outside that starts at noon. We will also have raffles all day. Dinner that day is smoked tri-tip. Adults $8 and kids 12 and under only $5. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Annual High School Academic Scholarship Fund. BITS Wild West Night Fundraiser to Support Animal & Equine Therapy – June 1, 2019

Wild West Night is an old fashioned, family good time FUNdraiser to support Equine & Animal Therapy programs in San Diego County.

Back In The Saddle’s 2nd annual Wild West Night Fundraiser will take place on Saturday June 1, 2019 from 5pm to 10pm at the Descanso Town Hall. The event promises to be a fun filled evening featuring delicious BBQ, adult beverages, great music, family fun activities, silent auction & raffle items. About Luke: Luke Hayworth is an 8-year-old little boy whose energy, sweetness, and silliness bring joy and light to everyone he meets. On December 26th, his family’s world was shattered when he was suddenly diagnosed with Leukemia.

Luke and his family have a long, exhausting road ahead of them. So many have asked me how they can help and I am hoping this page will be a positive and supportive way to provide that help when it is needed and love always.

WHAT:

Neighbors of Barons Market’s seven stores will enjoy delectable bites and brews on patios and stockrooms during a springtime-themed Backroom Beer Pairing on May 22. Barons Market employees will serve up delicious favorites like a mushroom and beef flatbread and spicy fish tacos, complimented by hand-selected brews from Second Chance Beer Co. (an Over the Line Lager in this case).

 

WHY:

Barons Market transforms its stock rooms and loading docks into a food and brew speakeasy for the night during its quarterly Backroom Beer Pairings. It donates all its ticket revenue to charity—this time it’s to Second Chance Dog Rescue and Animal Friends of the Valleys. Last year, Barons Market donated more than $25,000 to charity from this initiative.

25th Annual Alpine Community Church Rummage Sale – May 10 & 11, 2019

Come shop around and find hidden treasures at Alpine Community Church’s 25th Annual RUMMAGE SALE – East County’s Biggest and Best Rummage Sale EVER! Friday, May 10, 2019 & Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 8am to 3pm at Alpine Community Church (2225 W. Victoria Drive) There will be tons of clothing, toys, kitchenware, linens, jewelry, crafts, shoes, furniture, books, videos, CDs, sporting goods, tools, yard equipment, and MORE! All with great low prices! This sale has a reputation for being the cleanest, most organized rummage sale in the county and draws shoppers from the entire San Diego region.

Church members as well as local Alpine residents save their gently used items and donate to the church, which has been collecting items for the last few months. Starting the week of May 6, members volunteer to inspect, sort and clean all items that have been donated.  All electric items are tested to make sure they are in working order.  Alpine Kiwanis Club members come on Thursday morning and install their tents in the parking lot at 2225 W. Victoria, across from the Women’s Club, and church volunteers then move all items out and organize them for the sale that begins at 8am on Friday morning.

Many Alpine residents look forward to this Rummage Sale, because of the bargains that await them.  Organizer Donna Boyer states, “We begin pricing items early in the week.  Prices are set low – the goal is to sell all that we have collected and we set prices so items will sell quickly”.  Trustee Vern Sonksen explains, “The Rummage Sale is our biggest fundraiser of the year.  While the money helps the church budget, we also hope that it will benefit the Alpine community.”

Members of the church are also available to pick up any items that people in the community would like to donate.  The church does not accept used computer equipment, old console televisions, nor do they accept used recliners.  According to Sonksen, “these items don’t sell and are very difficult for us to move around on sale days.”

DONATIONS WANTED for the Alpine Community Church Rummage Sale in May 2019

The Alpine Community Church is accepting donations for the annual Rummage Sale. From April 17, 2019 through Wednesday, May 8. Donations such as clothing, working electronics, working appliances, furniture, jewelry, gardening tools, holiday decorations, linens, kitchen utensils, toys and baby furniture, paintings, books and pet items will be accepted.  Monetary donations are also welcome. Please contact the church office at (619) 445-2110 between 9:00 a.m. – noon to setup an appointment for you to drop off your donations from April 17 – May 8. If you can not drop off your donated rummage sale items, call the church office to schedule pick up. “HORSES AND THEIR HEROES” Open House at Horses of Tir Na Nog Sanctuary – April 28, 2019

“Horses and Their Heroes” Open House. Horses of Tir Na Nog Sanctuary invites you to visit on Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 10am– 1pm to meet our ranch residents and local heroes, including those from CAL Fire and County of San Diego Department of Animal Services.  We hope that you will make plans to visit the ranch and meet the newest residents, as well as visit with old friends. Youngsters, and the young at heart, are welcome to dress as heroes. This family-friendly event is FREE, but we do ask that you RSVP by April 23 at horsesoftirnanog.org or email eventsforhorses@ymail.com. We will respond to your RSVP with directions to the ranch. We are located in Guatay, just east of Descanso.

In 2018 the number of horses in our care increased dramatically with several horses arriving from County of San Diego Department of Animal Services and eight from HiCaliber Horse Rescue and other local rescues in need. And of course, between August 2018 and January 2019 our mustang herd more than quadrupled in size. In order to meet the challenges this growth has brought, we have a special request for this year’s open house.
