Fundraiser at the Casino Inn for 11 Year Old Kyle O’Quinn Raises $8,500

A fundraiser to help an 11-year-old boy with severe medical problems was a big success here in Alpine! The Casino Inn event raised $8,500 on July 22 for Kyle O’Quinn…almost three times more than supporters had hoped!

Kyle has had more than 70 surgeries since he was diagnosed with with brain and body aneurysms at the age of 2. Kyle and his family are getting ready now for his extensive physical, occupational and speech therapy rehabilitation as the child’s medical journey continues. “He has to learn everything all over again,” said Jearod O’Quinn, the boy’s father.  “He’s still making progress, but he’s got a long road ahead of him. How he handles it all amazes me.”

During the fundraiser, Kyle, his brothers and sister met the service puppy donated by Trident Manor Kennels that will help the boy continue his medical journey.

Amber Yelton, Kyle’s aunt, manages the Casino Inn, a member of the Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce. Yelton describes Kyle as “a little fighter” against his ailment, a child who wants to swim with dolphins. An online fund raising account for Kyle’s Journey has been set up at Checks made out to Jearod O’Quinn may be sent to the Casino Inn at 1155 Alpine Blvd., Alpine, CA, 91901. Purchase a Commemorative Tile to Support the Historic Alpine Town Hall

Alpine Woman's Club Commemorative tiles Alpine Ca 91901

Alpine Woman’s Club Offers Commemorative Tiles

The original Alpine Town Hall was built in 1899.  The Alpine Woman’s Club was established in 1914 and acquired the Town Hall in 1932.  In 2006, the Club was designated an historic site by the San Diego County Register of Historic Places. Members have donated their time, talents and resources to preserve and maintain this stately building for the enjoyment of our generation and future generations.

This is an opportunity to be a part of Alpine’s history by purchasing a Commemorative Tile that will be displayed at the Historic Town Hall. The tiles measure 4 x 4 inches and the cost is $250 per tile. On your tile you can have your name, children’s names, business name, dedicate a memorial tile for a loved one, or just be imaginative. The proceeds from the sale of these tiles go to the maintenance of the Town Hall. If you would like to view these tiles they are located on the Town Hall ramp, 2156 Alpine Blvd. To download an order form please go to their website and click Store or contact Nancy Bender at 619-817-5721

Barons Market Backroom Beer Pairing to Feature Mike Hess Brews – June 21, 2017

Welcoming longer days and warmer nights, Barons Market announces an evening of perfectly paired food and brews. At its June 21 Backroom Beer Pairing, the family-owned community grocery store and Mike Hess Brewing will pour craft brews and serve summer appetizers at all seven Barons Market locations in Southern California. “When we picture summertime, we imagine friends and family enjoying food, drinks and good company outdoors in the place they call home,” says Barons Market’s Vice President of Marketing Rachel Shemirani. “We want to replicate that nostalgic, comfortable experience to kick off summer with a Barons twist. Best of all, all proceeds from this celebration go to organizations ensuring all our neighbors have enough food for healthy, active lives.” Barons’ Backroom Beer Pairings transform loading docks and stock rooms into food and local brew speakeasies. Friends will gather at their neighborhood store to sample Mike Hess brews paired with easy-to-replicate dishes made from the market’s selection of all-natural ingredients.

The warm-weather menu includes:

  • 8 West Orange Honey Wheat – Named for the highway to the sun-kissed Pacific shores of San Diego, 8 West is brewed with local orange peel and more than two pounds per barrel of pure California orange-blossom honey – paired with green goddess spring salad.
  • Grapefruit Solis IPA – Using only real fruit, this beer kicks it up a notch by taking an awesome San Diego-style IPA and pumping it full of citrusy grapefruit – paired with chicken curry skewers.
  • Hoptoitus IPA – Hints of pine, grass and citrus with a semi-dry finish, this beer is an award-winning classic – paired with blue cheese sliders.
  • Umbrix – Rich, deep, and intensely complex, the roasted malts give this ale flavors of coffee, chocolate and toffee, while the rye malt and generous hopping rate result in light spiciness – paired with Barons brownie à la mode.

Barons Market will donate 100 percent of proceeds from its San Diego locations to the San Diego Food Bank. In 2016, the local market raised more than $26,000 for local organizations through its Backroom Beer Pairings. To kick off a summer of food and fun, head to one of Barons Market’s seven Southern California locations from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on June 21. Tickets will sell out, so purchase yours for $15 today.
