Monetary & Goodie Bag Donations Sought for Home Delivered Thanksgiving Meals for Seniors

 

Dear Alpine Community Center Members,

The Alpine Community Center has been serving Thanksgiving meals to local seniors for 21 years! In the past we have had financial support from Aging and Independence Services; that help no longer exists. The purpose of this letter is to ask our community for assistance to feed those in need right here in Alpine.

We have a team of volunteers who assemble the meals and deliver them to the homes of seniors. The meal consists of: turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, green bean casserole, fruit salad, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. We also put together “goodie” bags which contain tokens from our local Alpine businesses.

Please help us with a donation to support his program! We can use monetary donations, and/or things to go in our goodie bags. Your donation is tax deductible and we will provide you with a tax receipt. The senior citizens of Alpine will benefit greatly and will be very appreciative.

ALFA (Alpine Library Friends Association) MEMBERSHIP DRIVE! Support Our Alpine Library

The Alpine Library Friends Association (ALFA) is an all volunteer, non-profit organization and is currently holding its annual Membership Drive.  ALL dues go directly to the ALPINE LIBRARY for additional books and materials; various subscriptions; and a vast assortment of programs, including free concerts, for tots to seniors.  For only $15/year you, too, can support your local library and community.  Perks for becoming a member?  Of course.  Every month our members can take advantage of their very own Members Only ½ price sale in the ALFA Bookstore which is not open to the general public.  Check out our website at www.alpinelibraryfriends.org or visit our Bookstore inside the Alpine Library at 1752 Alpine Blvd., Alpine.  The Bookstore is open Tuesday 10:00 am – 7:30 pm and Wednesday-Saturday 10:00 am to 4:30 pm.  Hope to see you there.

TURKEY TROT! Creekside Kindergarten Fundraiser for New Computers, Playground Equipment & More

Alpine’s only Kindergarten needs your help!

Creekside Early Learning Center, our local Alpine kindergarten, is in the midst of a big fundraiser called the Turkey Trot Fundraiser.

It is solely a digital fundraiser. We are trying to raise money for a new computer lab, more chrome books for the classrooms, playground equipment, pay for field trips and assemblies, education technology programs and much more! Your support is vital to the success of our program.

Barons Backroom Beer Pairing Featuring “ABNORMAL BEER CO” – October 24, 2018

Join us for our LAST Backroom Beer Pairing of the year at Barons Market in Alpine featuring Abnormal Beer Co on Wednesday October 24, 2018 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

100 percent of proceeds will go to Breast Cancer Awareness programs

In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Barons Market will join forces with Abnormal Brewing to raise funds for cancer organizations at its last Backroom Beer Pairing of the year. On October 24, community members can gather at any one of Barons’ seven Southern California grocery stores to enjoy curated bite and brew menus in its stockrooms-turned-speakeasies. “Each year, thousands of women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Southern California,” says Rachel Shemirani, vice president of marketing for Barons. “For our last Backroom Beer Pairing of the year, we’re giving back to two incredible organizations making a difference in the lives of our neighbors struggling with the hardships of this disease.”

Barons Market’s flavor experts and Abnormal’s savvy brewers came together to create an array of food and beer pairings for this event:

  • Tiki Life for Me: An island cocktail wheat ale paired with a pomegranate salad
  • Boss Pour: An American-style IPA paired with parmesan truffle fries
  • Hazy Dreams: A hazy-style IPA paired with Barons’ chicken and dumpling soup

Olivia’s Bow Club is a Subscription Bow Club that is owned and operated by Lindsay (Brookshire) Darnelle – Lifelong resident of Alpine and the daughter of Angela & Ronald Brookshire (Owners and creators of the Alpine Community network).

Kylie Rowand, is a beautiful baby girl who lived in Alpine who changed our community FOREVER …. she battled Neuroblastoma cancer for 13 months before she passed away from the disease at the tender age of 2. Her parents Bree and Luke Rowand started The Kylie Rowand Foundation in her honor and have since raised more than $100,000 to benefit pediatric cancer and help families with children who have been impacted by the disease pay for their gas, groceries, mortgages and rent during cancer treatments. Kylie is a gorgeous baby girl from our home town who was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma at a year old.

Her strong mama shared their journey online and Kylie soon gained a massive following of supporters while inspiring hundreds of thousands of people around the globe.

At 2 1/2 years old Kylie flew home to heaven and gained her angel wings.

Kylie’s legacy now lives on through the Kylie Rowand Foundation as she continues to inspire all of us to be brave, be strong, smile in the hardest times and….. love like Kylie.

PARTY OF THE DECADE! East County Fest at Mission Trails – August 25, 2018

East County fest celebrates the 10th anniversary of East County Magazine’s nonprofit community news and wildfire alerts

August 2, 2018 (San Diego) – The public is invited to “East County Fest” at Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor Center on Saturday, Aug. 25 from 6-10 p.m. with VIP reception at 5:30 p.m. Festivities at  include delicious tastes from 16 local restaurants and wineries, live music, artists, authors, live painting, an auction and raffle, sunset views, stargazing with San Diego Astronomy Association and  a special best of East County” program.  Billed as the “party of the decade,” East County fest celebrates the 10th anniversary of East County Magazine’s nonprofit community news and wildfire alerts, benefitting these public interest programs of the nonprofit 501c3 Heartland Coalition.

Tickets:  Tickets  are on sale at www.eastcountymedia.org/events.  Early bird tickets before Aug. 12 cost $65 for East County Fest, or $85 for the fest plus VIP party. Tables for 8 are $480, or $680 with VIP party.  (After Aug. 12, all tickets will rise by $10.)

Artists: World-renown watercolor artist Chuck McPherson will provide live performance art with his painting included in our auction. His works have won  awards in over 100 juried art shows and been displayed worldwide. Our auction also includes works by award-winning wildfire artist Gloria Chadwick and wildlife photographer Debbie Merrill who will be displaying and selling her artwork.

Music & Entertainment: Live music includes award-winning fingerstyle guitarist Jim Earp, instrumental guitarist Miles Moynihan performing jazz, classical, and Nuevo Flamenco music, dancers from Visionary Dance Theatre, and Native American flute players.

Guest speaker: Richard Lederer, founding host of “A Way With Words on KPBS” and “Lederer on Language” columnist for the San Diego Union-Tribune, will speak and have copies of his books available; he has sold over a million copies of more than 40 books. His current books include The Gift of Age, A Tribute to Teachers, American Trivia, and Amazing Words.

$3 of each pint will go to the Community Recovery Team for uninsured and underinsured fire victims.
