Fit 4 Mom / Stroller Strides Family Trick or Treat Event – October 26, 2017

Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 9:30am – 12pm at the Alpine Community Center Park (1830 Alpine Blvd, Alpine, California 91901) Let’s have some fun! Bring the Kids, Dad, Grandma, Friends…. anyone you want! This is a FREE event for Alpine and nearby communities!  We’ll be having a costume contest, with a prize for the best kids costume and group (mom & baby, mom & multiple kids, etc.). There will be giveaways including Stroller Strides class passes!
There will also be a Free Stroller Strides Pumpkin class prior from 9:30-10:30 AM with the Trick or Treat event following immediately after.  Please bring your favorite treat to share!
We will also have Lionsbrow Photography there for the kids to take a staged portrait!

Happy October, everyone! We’re all excited about cooler weather and pumpkin spice everything, but in the library world, fall also means it’s One Book One San Diego time!

One Book, One San Diego is a community reading program managed by KPBS in partnership with the San Diego County Library and the San Diego Public Library. The purpose of the program is to encourage residents to join together in the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book. The program also encourages participation in related events, discussions of the ideas raised in the featured books, and examination of how these ideas connect with our daily lives and local communities. This year’s title is The Sandcastle Girls by bestselling author Chris Bohjalian,The multi-generational story begins in Syria in 1915 during the Armenian genocide and ends in modern-day Boston.

Create a dish that reflects your family heritage and bring a sample to share! Our October theme pays homage to the 2017 One Book One San Diego selection. Our group discussion will focus on how food is key to the immigrant experience and cultural diversity.

Alpine Reads with San Diego – Saturday, October 21 at 10 am
We will discuss this year’s One Book One San Diego title, The Sandcastle Girls by Chris Bohjalian.


Discover Oculus VR! (Ages 18+) – Tuesday, October 24 at 1 PM
Here’s your chance to try out a Oculus virtual reality headset!  Step into another world through the magic of future technology. the virtual reality system was recently acquired by the Library through a grant. Come in and see the future!


You, Water and Paint…Discover! (Ages 16+) Every 2nd and 4th Fridays at 10 am.
Acrylic and watercolor painting workshop for beginners and up. Freestyle with basic techniques.  Space is limited, so come early! We can only accommodate the first 18 people to arrive. All supplies provided.

Jerry Gontang has been in and out of more bands than he can remember, ridden the lyrical coattails of Jimmy Buffett for over 30 years, and spent the last two decades entertaining people in a music and humor group called Oh! Ridge.


Make Your Garden a Habitat! – Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 2 pm
Carlette Anderson, director of Alpine’s Community Wildlife Habitat Program, will explain the process of certifying your garden with the National Wildlife Federation.


Don’t forget to visit the Alpine Library Friends Association Bookstore, located in the library lobby. They have a ton of wonderful books for extremely low prices, and all the proceeds go to support library programs and enhance our collection. Their hours are: Tuesday 10 AM – 7:30 PM and Wednesday – Saturday 10 AM – 4:30 PM.

FREE FOR ALL AGES! Night of the Jack O’Lanterns At Alpine Creek Town Center – October 12, 2017

The Alpine Education Foundation (AEF) invites you to join us for special event at the Alpine Creek Town Center (1347 Tavern Road, Alpine, CA 91901) on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 6 – 8pm. The event is FREE for all ages. (Tickets required for Food Tastings.)

AEF’s Night of the Jack O’Lantern’s festivities will include a Jack o’ Lantern Contest, Costume Contest, Barons Rocks Painting Station, professional Halloween makeup demonstrations and face painting for the kids. Food tasting at the Center’s restaurants, including Alpine Beer Company, Ahi Sushi, La Carreta, Mediterraneo, Barons Market and Hope Superfoods is also part of the fun! (Separate ticket required for food tasting.)

FOOD TASTING TICKETS: Food tasting tickets are $15 (adults); $10 (12 & under) Tickets are available online HERE or at the door the day of the event.
