Alpine Library Calendar of Free Events – August 2017

Library events Logo

Hi all, we hope you are enjoying your summer! There’s still time to sign up for Summer Reading (all ages are welcome) and we will be giving out prizes through the end of August. Our regular after-school programs will be starting up again in September, and we encourage all parents to talk to your kids about respectful behavior at the library after school:  We do not allow any food or drinks in the library or on the patio in the afternoons, and the park and stage behind the library does not allow bikes, skateboarding, or scooters. Please pick up all your trash, and use indoor voices when inside the library.

curriculum activities and guided interpretive walks. Through this program students will participate in a variety of learning activities centered on scientific thinking and observation, storytelling and cultural learning, and exploring our local history here in Alpine. Hiking and outdoor exploration will be a main component also, one where we’ll explore our local flora and fauna – and hopefully see some wildlife in their native habitats! One hour of the program will be devoted to hands-on service-learning projects where students will participate in volunteer stewardship activities (available for
school credit) and will assist BCLT staff in restoring native habitats on the preserve.

This Camp will take place at Joan MacQueen Middle School / Wright’s Field, and is open to 4th – 7th Graders. Camp cost is $20. Register at www.aef4kids.net. Additional information will be emailed after registration. For more info please email readybreak@aef4kids.net

Additional info:

With the wonderful support of the Alpine Community Network, Alpine Education Foundation has offered 5 Ready Break Camps this summer, hosted at Alpine schools and conducted by professional teachers and instructors.  The programs are intended to provide an enrichment to the normal school curriculum and include two different Arts programs, an elementary and a middle school PE/Sports program, and a Robotics-Coding Camp.  Nearly 110 registrations have been received.  The PE/Sports programs received a lot of registrations, with one being over-subscribed.

The Back Country Land Trust’s “Living Classroom” program for three East County school districts earlier in the year was also well received with 500 kids attending over the past semester.
