ALPINE FARMERS MARKET today, 3 to 7 CVS Parking lot … Stop by the Market Managers Booth today and enter to win a free CSA box at the market today!!

My name is Diane Haworth and I run the Alpine Certified Farmer’s Market (on Tuesdays in the CVS parking lot) and I thought I would give you a little information about the vendors there … The Tuesday “ALPINE FARMERS MARKET” now has over 60 vendors.

In our “Certified” market area we have more than 10 certified farmers selling everything from fresh produce to fresh eggs, artisan cheeses, nuts and nut butters, green-fed beef, hens, fresh cut flowers, orchids, fruit trees, herbs, and plants for your garden.

In the other area of the market we have artisan breads, gluten free breads, regular and gluten free pastas, fresh fish (as in caught the morning of the market) hummus, Greek cheeses and yogurts, jams, local honey, BBQ sauces, balsamic, olive oils, olives and feta, pasta sauces, fresh made tamales, salsas, fresh made guacamole and chips, along with fresh fish and shrimp ceviche!

We have fresh green juices, pomegranate juice, orange juice, apple juice and cherry juice, a new vendor this week from downtown who has a 3-day detox fresh juice cleanse and a weight loss cleanse, we have a fresh mushroom grower, kombucha, seed salts, delicious soups to use right away, or keep in the freezer for busy nights, vegan foods, incredible desserts & treats from another new vendor this week, Suzy’s Desserts. We have the best cookies in the world from The Cravory (new this week … OMG, NOT kidding) and beautiful imported linen tables cloths from France and Italy.

Fresh lavender and local lavender products, Lucy’s planters (each a piece of art) and this week A Cut Above Florist’s Kathy Matranga with her incredible creations, succulents and more.

We have handcraft local artisan vendors with everything from high end jewelry, and beautiful wood burning art, handmade wooden cutting boards, garlic graters, adorable wearable art aprons, alpaca wool products from a local alpaca farmer and more.

You can also meet with a local skincare specialist, get a massage, a makeover, learn about business opportunities for extra income, set up solar estimate appointments, speak with a builder about reducing energy costs in your home, and on top of all that, you can eat dinner from one of the many hot food vendors while enjoying live music at a tables in the middle of the market, or you can visit one of the restaurants right there in the center when you are done at the market.

I started this market as a place for our local farmers and other vendors to have a place to sell what they produce, and as a gathering spot for the community. If you do not see what you are looking for from a farmers market, let me know and I will make sure we get it out here.

Come check it out TODAY (Tuesday) from 3 to 7pm, Alpine Farmers Market at the Alpine Creek Town Center in front of CVS.

I believe our community can support both this market and the Friday Farmer’s Market at the Marketplace at Alpine and I encourage you to shop at both and support all the wonderful vendors we each have! We are both doing is good for the community and we are really quite different markets so come check us both out!

A fund has been established to help Chappie Hunter, the San Diego police detective who lost his leg in a motorcycle accident on Father’s Day  in Alpine.

Hunter, who has a wife and young son, has a long road to recovery.

The San Diego Police Officers Association (SDPOA) has set up a fund to help Hunter, his wife and young son.

Checks should be made payable to SDPOA with “Detective Chappie Hunter” in the memo line.

Local Marketplace gives non-profits a voice and a bounty

More than a Friday Farmer’s Market and more than a five-day artisan showcase, the Marketplace at Alpine is now a venue for the voice of the local non-profit community and a source of some revenue.

Kicking off the charity spotlight is BEHOLD, a faith-based organization which is focused on “networking the resources of our community to support the needs of our community”.

Those attending the June 14 Friday Night Certified Farmer’s Market at the Marketplace had an opportunity to meet the group’s founder, Joseph Vanderbilt, and hear his vision of opening a youth center in the heart of Alpine, where kids can gather in a safe, clean environment to play, socialize and/or be entertained through various activities.

“We recognize that if kids have nowhere to go and don’t have a healthy outlet, that they are left to entertaining themselves which can lead to drugs, alcohol, illegal activities and trouble,” he said.

Vanderbilt was able to meet face-to-face with multitudes of shoppers and share his vision, as well as the organization’s needs to make it happen.

It’s this personal contact that breathes life into a non-profit group and transforms visions into realities, says Glenn Quirk, owner of the Marketplace at Alpine.

He said he is thrilled to be able to offer the means of connecting non-profits to the people of Alpine and surrounding areas.

“We strive to create an environment rooted in friendship, philanthropy and collective inspiration that extends into the community-at-large,” Quirk said.

Representatives of BEHOLD will again be present at the June 21 Friday Farmer’s Market at the Marketplace, and invite community members to stop by to chat with them.

Local non-profit groups interested in being featured at upcoming Friday Markets should contact Quirk at 619-722-6169.  Each organization will be offered a free booth for two consecutive weeks, and is the beneficiary of proceeds from an opportunity drawing for a work of art by one of the on-site artisans.

The Marketplace at Alpine hosts a weekly Friday Night Certified Farmer’s Market from 3-7 pm, along with a permanent showcase of local artisans on Wed.-Sunday, from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm (3:30 on Sunday).  It is located at 2442 Alpine Blvd. in downtown Alpine, CA.

I was leaving my home and we have a lower lot with some equipment and parts on it and there was a primer color black truck in our lower lot pulling out as I came down my driveway. They made a sharp right turn with a metal equipment stand of ours falling out of the back of their truck as they went up Peutz valley.  I stopped in the road with the help of a passerby and they picked up the heavy part and put it on my driveway and at that time the black truck came back down the road heading toward Alpine blvd.  and almost hit my car to get around me.

I followed and called 911, as they proceeded down Peutz Valley and made a right on Alpine blvd. then left on Peutz valley rd (dirt section) between Alpine blvd. and Arnold were I told 911 I lost sight of them as I was concerned about following them  back in there.

Neighbors keep a look out!
